Lighting Consultation
The first step in the process is to meet with you (and your architect / interior designer) to understand your project, your design, and your dreams & aspirations.
Using our unique YarraLight Design Guide – which is full of example photographs, inspiration images, and illustrations of various lighting techniques – we then guide you through various lighting options, styles & approaches which will best suit your home’s design & project budget.
These consultations can take place at your home, at your architect or interior designer’s office, or even on-site. While face-to-face consultations are preferrable, our Lighting Consultations can also be organised on-line via Zoom for a Covid-safe experience.
Coloured Lighting Plan
After the Lighting Consultations we can prepare Coloured Lighting Plans in PDF format, illustrating the type & location of all light fittings, with visual representation for clarity & ease of reading, and how each light is to be turned on & off or dimmed.
The Lighting Plans will be suitable for either a builder to install from directly, or used by your architect / interior designer to incorporate the lighting into their overall drawing package.
Product Recommendations & Technical Specifications
The final choice of the light fittings you purchase for your home will always be yours.
However, it can be a daunting prospect choosing the right lights. With the seemingly near endless options & choices available of LED fittings and decorative light fixtures, we are here to help and can provide recommendations of what will be best for your home.
This could be recommendations on the type & style of fittings (providing advice on things like wattage, beam angle and colour temperature) for you and your builder to source. Or if you prefer, we can provide a product specification, inclusive of all technical data, for your builder to purchase & install specific light fixtures we recommend from trusted & reputable suppliers.
Lighting Details
We can assist your architect, interior designer, or builder by providing Lighting Details when integration is required into joinery, shelving, under benchtops, walls, ceilings, or any other bespoke interior design element.
This attention to detail helps ensure the initial design intent is continued into the built reality, and the lighting effects are executed properly for a flawless outcome.
Lighting Controls
From Smart Lighting systems, to centralised Lighting Control systems, or to the often-overlooked positioning & function of wall switches (which if not intuitive and simple, can make the lighting within rooms confusing & frustrating) – we can offer advice to simplify what can otherwise be a baffling and complex technology.
Decorative Lighting Selection Assistance
Whether it’s a feature pendant, a vanity or wall sconce, a signature floor lamp, table or reading light, selecting the right decorative fixture is crucial to compliment your overall interior design and provide the right kind of light within a space.
We can assist in the selection of decorative lights by accompanying you to various home lighting stores here in Melbourne, many of which we have established relationships with, and whom we can introduce you for a personalised service.

On-Site Services
We are available to attend your residence during construction, to inspect the lighting installation and provide advice on any defects that need to be rectified. This is sometimes just as valuable to the builder as it is to the client.
We can also assist in the commissioning of Lighting Control systems, ensuring your home functions & operates smoothly, intuitively and seamlessly with other integrated systems.
Should you or your builder also require assistance in the aiming of any adjustable lights, such as spotlights or track lights, we can also assist to ensure they are properly illuminating what they were intended to light.
Code Compliance Reports & Budgeting
While we take the effect that our designs have on the environment seriously, always designing with energy efficient & long-life LED fittings, there are also statutory codes & requirements all residential construction must comply with.
We are able to prepare Code Compliance Reports should your building surveyor, local council, building council or others require it, such as the NCC Building Code of Australia, or rating tools such as Green Star certification (from the Green Building Council of Australia).
We can also prepare cost estimates of all light fittings proposed for your project, so you can accurately account for them within your overall construction budget.
